Elizabeth McBride is a writer and poet living in Grand Ledge, Michigan. She plans to work on a collection of poems to ready them for publication; and to develop a portfolio of new, place- and nature-based poems.

Jim Jacoby of Livonia, Michigan, is a photographer whose residency will focus on the area’s special natural features – from the dunes in pre-dawn and dusk hours to other ecosystems off the beaten path.

Duncan Spratt Moran lives in Traverse City, Michigan and has taught for many years at The Pathfinder School, where he is known for his enthusiasm and high energy level. He is also an accomplished artist, whose work is marked by vivid color, expressive brushwork, and a playful sense of place.

Peggy Driehorst from Carmel, Indiana, earned a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art with training as an enamalist. She began painting murals and furniture professionally, and then decided to get back into fine arts to refine her painting skills.

Manitou Music Festival Dune Climb Concert- [more info]

A beautiful summer’s evening at the foot of the Dune Climb in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, hundreds of families enjoying their pre-concert picnics and then a musical program provided by artists of national stature: this is the magical mixture which has filled audiences with warm memories every year since the first Dune Climb concert in 1998.

Sarah Tule from Petoskey, Michigan, will exhibit recent watercolor paintings. Sarah’s interest in art was cultivated by her childhood in Michigan and family trips to scenic areas in other parts of the country. Her natural talent was nurtured by those around her.

Lynn Uhlmann from Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, holds a BFA and MFA. Over the past 40 years, she has participated in numerous national exhibitions of work in ceramics, painting, and photography.

Wet Painting Exhibit/Sale: 5:30-7:30 PM at GAAA – Sales begin at 5:45 PM. The juror will judge works prior to the opening of the reception. People’s Choice Award announced at 7:00 pm. $10 donation at the door includes wine sampling and appetizers.

Barbara Doepke Cochran spends her time painting in the Chicago area, Boca Grand, Florida, and Maple City, Michigan. After graduating from Principia College with an art major, she continued her art education at the American Academy of Art in Chicago.

Oral Carper and Harriett Mittelberger, both watercolor artists have paired up for this two person show. Oral Carper is a retired Air Force Colonel with 33 years of service and during his entire tenure remained an active operational pilot with a combat mission.

Alex Helfers, of Chicago has been drawing and painting since he could first hold a pencil. He received formal training in illustration and graphic design at Washington University in Saint Louis before embarking on a career in the advertising industry, having created campaigns for a variety of Fortune 500 clients and the NFL Super Bowl.

Mark T. Meyer of Traverse City, Michigan, is a painter who’ll use his residency to make sketches and studies of the area’s natural features, the effects of light and color on them and work toward completing several pieces about the lakeshore.

Jim Markle is a pastel painter living in Grand Rapids. His residency will concentrate on day-long painting sessions. Jim is especially interested in painting the Leelanau landscape and its glacial geography.

Karen Hildebrandt lives in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Her medium is historical fiction and plans to use her residency to work on – if not complete – a novel based on the life of Emily Wilding Davison, a British suffragette.

During Fall for Art the Glen Arbor Art Association will have an exhibit of work showcasing the talent of GAAA members. Connie Cronenwett of Dexter, Michigan, is an oil painter. Her residency will focus on painting a series of dunescapes, dune vegetation and the effects of changing light and shadow.

Paul Arno Rose lives in Garden, Michigan. He wants to explore Glen Arbor and the National Lakeshore area with his camera, documenting people, landscape and other wintertime influences on this ecosystem.
