Annual Dune Climb Concert – Free Concert

Concert Information:
Sunday July 15th
7:00 pm
Sleeping Bear Dune Climb, Glen Haven

Bring your family and picnics and join us for the Glen Arbor Art Association’s Annual Dune Climb Concert.  This year you will enjoy Leelanau County resident Kenneth Bloomquist conducting the Traverse Symphony Brass Ensemble in one of the most unique venues our area has to offer.

The TSO Brass Ensemble features 18 musicians, including many core players of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra, as well as freelance musicians who are regular and frequent performers with the TSO. Founded in 1951 as an amateur community orchestra, the Traverse Symphony Orchestra has evolved to become Northwestern Lower Michigan’s largest resident performing arts organization and only professional (part-time) orchestra.  Henry Fogel, President of the American Symphony Orchestra League, recently called the TSO “The best orchestra I have ever encountered in a community of this size.”  Musicians are from throughout the region and the state:  teachers, faculty and staff members from Interlochen Center for the Arts and Traverse City Area Public Schools, and professionals from all walks of life. Based in Traverse City, the organization is a vital resource for the entire region, artistically, educationally, and economically.

Guest Conductor Kenneth Bloomquist, a resident of Leelanau County, is one of the leading band conductors in America.   Professor of Music and Director of Bands Emeritus at Michigan State University, Mr. Bloomquist retired in 1994 after 24 years serving as Director of Bands for 14 years and Director of the School of Music for 10 years. Professor Bloomquist is Past President of the American Bandmasters Association and the National Band Association. He appears as guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Mexico.  He has served as President of the Northport Community Arts Center and as a Board member of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.
