DIRECTOR’S
GREETING

Listening to live chamber music is like being in a beautiful
environment. The rewards are immediate. To absorb the musical
sounds, colors and textures while viewing the performers touches
the emotions of us all. Manitou Music Festival takes place
in an environment surrounded on all sides by the peaceful
splendor of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Our musical
offerings promise to echo the unfolding colors, sounds and
textures in these nearby vistas. 2004 is my inaugural season
with MMF as Music Director. My predecessor, Crispin Campbell
along with the Glen Arbor Art Association have created something
very precious and I stand proudly on their shoulders. My hopes
are that you will stand with me and come and experience the
wonderful music to be heard this season. We look forward to
seeing old friends and meeting
new ones.
Sincerely,
Debra Fayroian
Music Director

Lynne Aspnes & Nuance Quartet
Impressionism: Eminently French in character, a music which
seems to hint rather than to state in which successions of
color take the place of dynamic development. A music which
is vague and intangible as the changing lights of the day,
the subtle noises of the wind and the rain. Join us in an
evening of music by Maurice Ravel and Jacques Ibert performed
by Nuance Quartet, all members of the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra, and acclaimed harpist Lynne Aspnes, Professor of
Harp at The University of Michigan and Interlochen Center
for the Arts.

Celebrating
American roots music, Steppin' In it is an accoustic
quartet with hearts based in tradition and minds ever moving
in creative directions. The combination of multi-instrumentalists
Andy and Joe Wilson, upright bassist Dominic Suchyta and singer
songwriter Joshua Davis is a rootsy roller coaster ride of
original and traditonal music. Playing everything from
blues to bluegrass, calypso to cajun, woeful waltzes to western
swing. Steppin' In It has become one of Michigan's
most sought after live acts.
