Glen Arbor Players Audition for “Sunset Boulevard”
April 25 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Glen Arbor Players [formerly Readers’ Theater] head back in time to Hollywood of the 50’s in its next production, “Sunset Boulevard.” Auditions for this June 1-2 production are Wednesday, April 25, 7 pm at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church. “Sunset Boulevard” offers roles for six men, two women and a narrator.
It’s 1950’s Hollywood, and the obscure screenplay writer Joe Gillis is not able to sell his work to the studios, is full of debts and is thinking of returning to his hometown to work in an office. While trying to escape from his creditors, he has a flat tire and parks his car in a decadent mansion in Sunset Boulevard. He meets the owner and former silent-movie star Norma Desmond, who lives alone with her butler and driver, Max Von Mayerling, and Joe Gillis is thrust into a preserved world that fires up his unwilling muse. The script was adapted by the production’s director, Ron Smith, from a 1951 radio broadcast and from the 1950 script used in the Hollywood film.
